Women in Construction Week 2026

What is Women in Construction Week?
Women in Construction (WIC) Week traces its roots back to 1960, when Amarillo Mayor A.F. Madison proclaimed the first “Women in Construction Week” to honor the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) and recognize the growing contributions of women in the field. What began as a local acknowledgment of pioneering women in the industry has evolved into a nationwide movement that continues to expand in scale and impact.
For over six decades, WIC Week has been dedicated to highlighting the achievements of women in construction, raising awareness about career opportunities, and addressing challenges that women face in a traditionally male-dominated industry.
Celebrated annually during the first week of March, WIC Week aligns intentionally with Women’s History Month and International Women’s Day — further amplifying the message of empowerment and representation.
Each year, NAWIC chapters across the country host national webinars, local events, community programs, jobsite tours, and educational workshops designed to highlight women’s voices and contributions. Every WIC Week also carries its own theme, offering a unified message that reflects the priorities and aspirations of the year. The theme for 2026, “Level Up. Build Stronger,” encourages women to strengthen their skills, elevate their careers, and continue shaping a resilient future for the industry.
Women’s Contributions to Construction
Over the past decade, the presence of women in construction has steadily grown. Since 2015 alone, the number of women working in the industry has increased by approximately 45%, demonstrating a meaningful shift toward broader inclusion and opportunity.
Why Should We Celebrate WIC Week?
Women in Construction Week is an opportunity to take a moment and appreciate the women who are showing up, stepping up, and helping shape the industry in big and small ways every day.
At Blue Bear Waste Services, we get to see that impact firsthand. Whether it’s coordinating project logistics, supporting field teams, or hauling the waste, the women on our team help make the tough jobs easier. Their perspective and problem-solving shape the way we serve our commercial partners and push us to keep raising our own standards.

“What I love most about construction is seeing the physical progress and understanding everything that goes into it. I show up every day because I truly enjoy what I do. I love driving, and every day feels different. Being a woman in construction is both challenging and rewarding, and it’s taught me so much. To me, this work isn’t about gender — it’s about passion and skill. I hope I can be an example that women can get out here and do this too.” – Yvette, Driver
