Superior History

A coal mining town, Superior, Colorado was founded in 1896, with the first coal mines dating back to the early 1800’s. This charming town in northern Colorado has a stunning view of the Rocky Mountains and it ranks as a top place to live in the state.

When mining started to dwindle in 1945, Superior evolved into a ranching and farming community. With a population of about 250 until fairly recently, Superior was able to keep its “sleepy town” label for decades. But not lately. The recent population boom of Colorado has touched many cities, Superior being one of them. Nowadays, the town’s population is of approximately 12,483.
